Safety Isn't Separate
From How We Work.
It's Part of It.

From dedicated H&S management and independent compliance auditing to fully digitalised documentation and auto-scheduled training Absolute Zero Refrigeration operates with the safety systems that serious industrial and commercial environments require.

A Safety Culture Built
Into the Business

The environments we work in — industrial refrigeration plants, food processing facilities, high-clearance warehouses, marine vessels, live commercial sites — don't allow room for casual approaches to safety. Every day on site carries real risk, and managing it properly takes more than a toolbox talk and a signed form.

At Absolute Zero Refrigeration, health and safety is a managed discipline, not a compliance exercise. We've invested in the people, the systems, and the processes to do it properly — and we hold ourselves to those standards consistently, not just when a client asks to see our documentation. The result is a team that works confidently in demanding environments, and a safety record that reflects that.

How We Manage Health & Safety

Our H&S programme is structured around dedicated oversight, independent expertise, and systems that keep the whole team consistently prepared — whether they're on a scheduled maintenance visit or responding to an emergency breakdown.

Dedicated H&S Manager

Reece Gray leads health and safety across Absolute Zero Refrigeration as our appointed H&S Manager. Reece conducts regular H&S meetings and site visits, ensures all work is carried out in line with our established procedures, and drives continuous improvement across the programme. Having a named, senior person responsible for H&S — not a rotating role or a shared responsibility — means accountability is real.

Independent H&S Consultant

In addition to internal management, we engage an independent health and safety consultant to review our systems and ensure full compliance with current New Zealand regulations. External oversight keeps us honest, catches blind spots that internal review can miss, and ensures our practices reflect current regulatory requirements — not last year's.

Regular Meetings and Site Reviews

H&S isn't a once-a-year conversation at Absolute Zero Refrigeration. We hold regular team H&S meetings, and Reece conducts scheduled site visits to check that procedures are being followed and that conditions on site are safe. Before each meeting, we review documentation and identify new or emerging risks — so meetings are productive rather than procedural.

Fully Digitalised Documentation System

All health and safety documentation is managed digitally, giving our team and our clients real-time access to current, accurate records. The system covers:

  • Job Safety Analyses (JSAs) — tailored to the specific tasks we undertake
  • Safe Work Method Statements (SWMS)
  • Electrical safety certificates
  • Vehicle inspection records
  • Take 5s
  • Incident reports
  • Training schedules
  • Safety Data Sheets (SDS)

Every document is current, accessible, and auditable. No paper trails to chase, no outdated records on site.

Auto-Scheduled Refresher Training

Refresher training is automatically scheduled when it falls due — meaning compliance doesn't depend on someone remembering to organise it. Our team stayscurrent across all relevant certifications and competencies, without gaps caused by administrative oversight.

First Aid Certified — Every Member of Staff

All Absolute Zero Refrigeration staff hold current first aid certificates. In the environments we work in, this isn't optional. It means that wherever our team is on site, there is always someone immediately qualified to respond if something goes wrong.

Our Credentials

Absolute Zero Refrigeration holds Site Safe accreditation and Impac prequalification — two of the most widely recognised H&S credentials in the New Zealand construction and industrial services sector. For clients whose procurement or site access processes require contractor prequalification, we meet those requirements.

If you're evaluating refrigeration contractors for a site with H&S prequalification requirements, or you simply want to work with a team whose safety practices match the quality of their technical work — we're happy to provide documentation, answer questions, or walk you through how we manage H&S in practice.
